MANILA, Philippines - The Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project (RRPP), as part of its community development assistance program and disaster mitigation response, is supporting the Sorsogon provincial government’s relocation project to prevent casualties during typhoons.
RRPP’s participation is in response to the appeal of Sorsogon Gov. Sally Lee for assistance in developing the relocation site. As initial support, the RRPP has turned over a financial contribution.
The provincial government has noted that rising water levels, flooding and landslides severely impact on specific coastal sites and other disaster-prone areas, and as a long-term solution, it identified a safe and socio-economically viable relocation site in Magallanes town for residents from these places.
Lee received RRPP’s donation from Cecille Calleja, vice president of Rapu-Rapu Minerals Inc. (RRMI).
The RRPP is located on Rapu-Rapu Island in Albay, facing Sorsogon across the Albay Gulf. It is owned and managed by RRMI and Rapu-Rapu Processing Inc., producing powdered concentrates of copper and zinc with gold and silver by-products.
