ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines – A former mediaman, engaged in business, was killed in broad daylight robbery Friday in a coastal village east of this city, according to security officials.
Police said Filipino-Chinese Kelly Ng Hao, who used to work with the Manila Broadcasting Co.’s (MBC) FM radio station as disc jockey and manager, was gunned down about 11:15 a.m. in Barangay Arena Blanco.
But authorities did not discount the possibility of attempted kidnapping as the victim struggled against the suspects.
Police investigation showed that Hao was delivering a brand of cigarette and other supplies in a store in the Muslim village when two gunmen accosted him.
Witnesses told police a struggle ensued before Hao was fired at close range, killing him on the spot before the suspects with their look-outs who escaped towards to unknown direction.
Hao suffered four gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and died on the spot.
Police reported that the suspects also carted the money of the victim amounting to P70,000 of business collections and checks.
The police security believed that Hao might have been cased by the suspects as the former have been frequenting the area, a known jump-off point of kidnappers.
