4 Cavite grade schoolers drown

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna , Philippines  – Four elementary students aged 10 to 13 drowned while swimming in a river in Trece Martires, Cavite Tuesday afternoon, police said.

In a belated report reaching this camp, Superintendent Reynaldo Galang, Trece Martires police chief, identified the victims as Kimberly Jan Moje, 13; Princess Dianne Jusay, 11; Marceline Georgette Obana, 12, all Grade 6 students, and John Marcel Obana, 10, Grade 1 student.

Gregoria Atas, principal of the Barangay Inocencia Elementary School, said the four pupils failed to return to school after having their lunchbreak.

Investigation showed that the students went to the nearby Pasong Duwag River to swim at around 1 p.m. but were swept away by the strong current.

The four victims were rushed to the General Emilio Aguinaldo Hospital but they were declared dead upon arrival.   – Arnell Ozaeta
