Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna , Philippines – Three persons were charred to death when a fire razed their house in Sariaya town in Quezon province early yesterday morning, police said.
Superintendent Danilo Morzo, Sariaya police chief identified the victims as Teofila Gabiola, 80, widow and her two children Antonio Gabiola, 59 and Asuncion Gabiola, 54, residents of Barangay Mamala 1, Sariaya, Quezon.
According to report, at around 2:30 am, a smoke was noticed by the Asuncion’s neighbors billowing out from their bungalow-type house, prompting them to report the incident to their barangay chairman.
Subsequently, the barangay chairman immediately called the Bureau of Fire Protection Office for assistance. However, when the firemen arrived at the area, the house was already razed to the ground, Morzo said.
Upon verification of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, the three charred bodies inside the house were positively identified by their relatives as the Asuncions.
Fire investigators said that the victims were using kerosene lamp during nighttime in order to save on their electricity consumption. – Arnell Ozaeta, Ed Amoroso
