Supreme Court stops proclamation of new Cavite vice mayor
MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has stopped the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from proclaiming Dhino Carlo Chua as winner in the vice mayoralty race in Cavite City in May 2007 and unseating the incumbent, Romeo Ramos.
In a resolution dated Aug. 25 and issued last Friday, the SC issued a temporary restraining order against a Comelec resolution last Aug. 17 that invalidated 8,888 of the total 23,061 votes cast in favor of Ramos.
The SC also directed Chua to cease and desist from claiming, assuming or performing the duties and functions of the vice mayor’s office. – Edu Punay
