ITOGON, Benguet, Philippines – A couple and two others were killed and five others suffered injuries after the passenger jeepney they were riding home to their village plunged into a 200-foot deep ravine here Tuesday night.
Rescuers identified the fatalities as Seperino Golingab, 81, and his wife, Sarah, 78; Virginia Tomino, 49; and Emiliano Tomino, 50, all residents of Barangay Dalupirip here.
Five others were injured and rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
Rafael Valencia, chief of Rescue 911, identified them as Bernand Cunanan, 17; Emiliano Esnara, 56; Remedios Dipayso, 53; Dolores Galunza, 47; and Leonardo Saley, 27.
Investigators said the passengers were heading home after attending a wake in Baguio City when they met the accident.
Initially, the mishap was blamed on the slippery and rough road although investigators were digging deeper into the incident.
