KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – The city government is seriously considering the idea of erecting a life-size bronze statue of former President Corazon Aquino to honor her for restoring democracy in the country.
Mayor Fernando Miguel said he is determined to put up the statue of Mrs. Aquino at the Freedom Park at the back of City Hall where he took his oath of office when she appointed him as OIC (officer-in-charge) vice mayor 23 years ago.
Koronadal was then a municipality. It was converted into a component city of South Cotabato by virtue of Republic Act 8803 on Oct. 8, 2000.
Miguel said he would erect Mrs. Aquino’s statue before his term ends next year.
“Her democratic legacy, sterling public service and unparalleled contribution to the nation’s history are enough reasons for erecting her statue,” Miguel told The STAR.
