Security tightened in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY, PHilippines  – Some 300 policemen as well as Army forces and hundreds of civilian volunteers have been deployed here to secure the safety of thousands of people who will witness the weeklong celebration of South Cotabato’s 43rd founding anniversary and the 10th T’nalak Festival.

The festivities opened yesterday with Sen. Francis Escudero as guest speaker, and will culminate with a grand fireworks display on July 18, the day the province was founded by settlers and migrants from other parts of the country 43 years ago.

Koronadal is a component city of South Cotabato and the administrative center of Central Mindanao.

Senior Superintendent Robert Kiunisala, South Cotabato police director, said police contingents and members of the anti-terrorism Task Group Marbel have been deployed along the city’s major thoroughfares and roads leading to transport terminals, malls and event areas.           – Ramil Bajo
