Female bank owner shot dead in Pangasinan

-

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines – A female bank owner was gunned down while she was walking near her residence after attending Mass here yesterday morning.

Superintendent Noel Vallo, city police chief, told The STAR that the victim, Alice Baun, 62, whose family owns the Kaluyagan Rural Bank and Palaris College in this city, died from a single gunshot wound in the back of the head.

Vallo said the gunman approached Baun while she was walking toward the gate of her residence along Polaris street at around 7 a.m. Baun died on the spot.

Police recovered a spent caliber .38 shell.

Witnesses said Baun had no companion when she was attacked and that the gunman looked like a woman although Vallo said the killer could only have put on a disguise.

Vallo said police were eyeing business-related angles behind Baun’s killing.

He said the killer probably belongs to a gun-for-hire syndicate based on the precise manner that the hit job was executed. – With Cesar Ramirez
