Pampanga graders join Independence Day rites
CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City, Philippines – Elementary pupils joined the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in commemorating the 111th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence, Friday.
Nolcom commander Lt. General Isagani Cachuela, said the traditional celebration of Independence Day, was joined by elementary pupils from the Camp Aquino Elementary School bearing miniature Philippine flags accompanied by their teachers in a flag-raising ceremony held at 6:30 a.m. in front of the Nolcom headquarters.
Cachuela said the activity was highlighted by a message of Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro. In his message, Teodoro acknowledged the noble efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who are ready to render service at all times specially during disasters, accidents, or even in peace.
“They are our protectors against terrorism, rescuers of calamity victims and builders of development projects such as schools, health centers, water and power system and roads and bridges in far-flung areas.” In the same vein, the AFP chief stressed that “the professionals of the Armed Forces of the Philippines do not only work to defeat the enemies of our democratic way of life, but also endeavor to win friends, build constituencies of support, and broaden our coalition and partnership with all sectors of our society. Our troops do not just show their mettle in warfare but also bring about enhanced environment for our people through our development initiatives,” the message said. – Ric Sapnu
