ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Crisis management officials of this city and Basilan have raised to P1 million the reward for information leading to the safe release of three public school teachers seized last Jan. 23.
Teachers Freires Quizon, Janette de los Reyes and Rafael Mayonado were snatched off Sacol Island here and brought to Basilan.
City Mayor Celso Lobregat approved an additional P400,000 to augment the P500,000 reward earlier offered by the Basilan crisis management committee, bringing the total to P1 million.
The kidnappers have lowered their ransom demand to P4 million, but Lobregat stood firm on the no-ransom policy. – Roel Pareño
