BATANGAS, Philippines – A 64-year-old man suffered a heart attack while watching the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight in a neighbor’s house in San Pascual town yesterday, and failed to reach the hospital alive, police said.
Chief Inspector Rebato Mercado, San Pascual police chief, said Francisco Lalongisip, a retiree, was watching a pay-per-view broadcast of the bout in his neighbor’s house in Barangay Ilat South when he suffered a heart attack at around 11:40 a.m.
“He was jumping and clapping for joy when he just lost consciousness after Manny knocked out Hatton in the second round,” Lalongisip’s younger sister Bernardita told The STAR.
Bernardita said it was her brother’s second heart attack since 2006.
She added that her brother’s three children did not allow him to work anymore after the first heart attack.
“He was really an avid fan of Manny Pacquiao. He had watched all of his fights, even if he had to do it in other people’s houses,” she said.
Lalongisip was rushed to the Bejasa Hospital in Bauan town but was declared dead on arrival. – Arnell Ozaeta
