Seaman shoots wife dead, then kills self

MANILA, Philippines – A 38-year-old seaman shot his teacher-wife dead before committing suicide inside their residence in Calapan City, Mindoro Oriental.

The incident involving seaman Fabio Catly, and his wife, Crisamel Sarmiento Catly, 33, occurred on Friday but their relatives asked police not to investigate and impose a news blackout on the case.

The Star, however, got wind of the incident through sources in Camp Crame.

Chief Superintendent Luisito Palmera, director of the Mimaropa police, confirmed the incident and hinted that jealousy could have triggered the case.

Palmera said they are verifying reports that Mrs. Catly is pregnant.

Reports reaching Palmera showed that the Catly couple were watching DVD movie in the sala of their house located at Durian St., Barangay Lalud in Calapan City when Crisamel stood up and went to the kitchen apparelty to cook their lunch at about 10:30 a.m. last Friday.

However, Fabio followed her and grabbed and dragged her into the stockroom before locking the door.

Palmera said a commotion inside the stockroom ensued and was heard by Leslie Domingo, a 17-year-old housemaid of the couple.

After a few minutes, successive gunshots were fired inside the room and were heard by Domingo and the victim’s neighbors. – With Arnell Ozaeta
