1 dead, 16 hurt in bus collision

-

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – A 40-year-old woman was killed while 16 others sustained injuries when the two buses they were riding in collided in Gumaca, Quezon last Sunday afternoon, police said.

Chief Inspector Giovanni Caliao, Gumaca police chief, said Nelia Alvarez-Capisonda, a resident of Marikina City, died on Monday morning while being treated at the San Diego Hospital for severe head and body injuries.

Reports said a Bicol-bound Philtranco bus was cruising the Maharlika Highway when it tried to overtake another vehicle but instead rammed into an incoming AB Liner bus en route to Manila.

After the collision, the Philtranco bus slammed into a house and the perimeter fence of a San Miguel Corp. warehouse, injuring no one there.
