2 kids killed, 11 injured in Isabela road mishap
SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines – Two children were killed and 11 others sustained injuries in a four-vehicle smashup in this southern Isabela city last Tuesday, authorities said.
The accident ensued when a Hyundai van, filled with picnickers who had come from a resort, rammed into a jeep along the national highway in Barangay Rizal, resulting, too, in the collision of a Mitsubishi Lancer and another Hyundai van.
Killed on the spot were five-year-old Jereli Chavez and four-year-old Claire Enriquez, who were on board the first van.
The van driver, Eric Enriquez, 28, was reportedly in critical condition due to head injuries.
Also injured were van passengers Angelita Telan, 30; Mary Grace Santos, 28; Myrde Bala, 16; Maricel Ramos Enriquez, 26; Mildred Gayapal, 16; Emily Palad, 39; and one Enrique Ramos.
The drivers of the three other vehicles reportedly sustained minor injuries. – Charlie Lagasca
