Lawmaker's driver gunned down

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – Gunmen shot dead a driver of Laguna’s 3rd District Rep. Ivy Arago while he was about to board his motorcycle in front of his residence in San Pablo City, Laguna, police said.

Police Superintendent Raul Bargamento, San Pablo City police chief, said the motive of the killing of Anastacio Biglete, of Sevilla St., Toemora Subdivision, Barangay San Gabriel, was not yet established, adding that Biglete’s killers are believed to be members of a gun-for-hire group operating in Laguna.

Probers said two unidentified men armed with .45 caliber pistols approached Biglete who had just come out of their ancestral home when he was killed at around 8:45 p.m., Sunday.

Witnesses told investigators, the victim was about to board his SYM motorcycle (6556-D0) when he was shot at close range by his attackers.

The suspects immediately escaped while bystanders brought the victim to the San Pablo City Medical Center, where he died while being treated.

Investigators said Biglete was a distant relative and a driver/ bodyguard of Arago who was out of the country when the crime happened.  – Ed Amoroso
