MANILA, Philippines - Temperatures in Cagayan Valley may reach 40 degrees Celsius next month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned yesterday.

Pagasa Administrator Prisco Nilo said the hottest temperatures are usually experienced in inland areas.

In Metro Manila, he said the maximum daytime temperature could go up to 37 to 38 degrees Celsius next month.

Pagasa weather forecaster Nonoy About said the hottest temperature recorded last year in Tuguegarao, the capital city of Cagayan, was 38 degrees Celsius on April 9 and 22.

Based on Pagasa data, the warmest temperature recorded in Tuguegarao was 42.2 degrees Celsius on May 11, 1969.          – Helen Flores
