BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – The long arm of the law finally caught up with a son of a former Nueva Ecija vice mayor who has been tagged as the leader of a highway robbery group operating along the Cagayan Valley-Nueva Ecija route.
Superintendent Ceasar Tannagan, provincial police intelligence chief, said the suspect, Erwin Alfonso, son of a former vice mayor of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, was arrested last Friday night in Barangay Sibut, San Jose City by elements of the Nueva Ecija’s 308th Police Mobile Group led by Superintendent Manuel Cornel, with intelligence help from the Nueva Vizcaya police.
Tannagan said Alfonso was positively identified by three of his men who were earlier arrested.
He said Alfonso’s group preyed on agricultural traders and other motorists passing along the mountain passage in Dalton Pass.
It was also held responsible for the killing of two truck employees of the Salviejo family of Bambang town two years ago.
