Quezon raid nets unlicensed firearms

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines– Authorities have arrested three men, including a police officer and businessman and seized from them several unlicensed highpowered guns during a series of raid in Quezon province.

Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad, Calabarzon police director, said charges of illegal possession of firearms were filed before the Quezon prosecutor’s office against Antonio Ramos, 60, owner of an illegal cockpit arena; Police Officer 3 Michael Maranas, assigned at the Lopez police station and a certain Rodante Escueta.

Palad said his men from the Regional Special Operations Group conducted a search warrant from the house of suspected gunrunner identified as Eddie Tibay, alias Bunso, however, the suspect was not around during the operation.

The police yielded several unlicensed guns from Tibay’s residence – one 7.62 mm caliber, one rifle, nine M203 grenades, seven short magazines and three rifle grenades and hundreds of various ammunitions. – Ed Amoroso
