Masbate vice mayor ambushed

LEGAZPI CITY – A vice mayor in Masbate was wounded while one of his aides was killed in an ambush last Tuesday, police said.

Antonino de Jesus, vice mayor of Milagros town, was waylaid while riding a motorcycle trailed by his three security escorts, also on motorcycles, police said.

De Jesus is being treated at a local hospital for gunshot wounds in the back and hand while his aide Nestor Arenabo was killed, the report added.

Police said a suspect, Gary Santiago de los Reyes, 24, was arrested four hours after the ambush.     – Celso Amo
