The Task Force Usig is investigating the killing of an Islamic ustadz (preacher) in Cotabato City to determine if the case falls under its jurisdiction.
Officials of the task force are now coordinating with the local police to secure records on the killing of Badrudin Abas, 38, a “blocktimer” of dxCM-Radyo Ukay in Cotabato City.
As an Islamic ustadz, Abas, who also belonged to a non-government organization, used his radio program to teach Islam.
Abas was shot in the head and chest with a caliber .45 pistol by a lone gunman who pretended to be a passenger of a jeepney the victim was driving.
After the killing, the triggerman, described to be 25 to 35 years old, alighted from the jeepney and escaped on a blue motorcycle driven by another man toward the supermarket area.
Task Force Usig gathered that Abas was not considered to be a hard-hitting radio commentator.
Reports said police suspect that Abas’ slay was a case of mistaken identity, although other angles were being explored.
Police found three empty caliber .45 shells and two slugs at the crime scene.
