Radioman jailed in 'Burlesk King' case now free

DAVAO CITY – A broadcaster who spent two years at the Davao Penal Colony (Dapecol) after his conviction in a libel case filed by Speaker Prospero Nograles over the so-called “Burlesk King” controversy was finally freed on Tuesday.

The court earlier had dismissed the case against Alexis Adonis after Nograles withdrew his charges, but the broadcaster had to be further detained because of a separate case filed against him by TV host Jeanette Lomanta-Leuterio, wife of a ranking police official.

As alleged, Nograles supposedly ran out of a posh hotel in Metro Manila after he and the TV host were allegedly caught by her husband.

Adonis was finally released from jail because Leuterio herself also accepted his apology, which became the basis for the complete dismissal of his case.

Adonis’ release reportedly also almost created a rift among officials of the National Press Club and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.

NPC president Benny Antiporda went to Dapecol reportedly to be among those who would meet Adonis upon his release.

However, local NUJP officers were also at the prison facility to fetch Adonis. He reportedly opted to be with the NUJP officers when he went home to Davao City.
