NPAs attack police station in Agusan

DAVAO CITY – Suspected New People’s Army rebels raided before dawn yesterday the municipal police station of Tubay, Agusan del Norte and simultaneously burned a tower of Globe Telecommunications, Inc. in the same area.

According to Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, head of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Eastern Mindanao, the communist rebels burned the facility of the SR Metals Mining Inc., also in Tubay, when they launched their attack at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Caro said the rebels were able to get one 9mm pistol and an Icom radio from the Tubay police station while they also fled with an undetermined number of firearms from the Gallantry Security agency that provided security for SR Metals Mining.

No casualties were, however, reported in the said incident.

Caro said he reiterated yesterday his reminder to all regional police directors in Eastern Mindanao to be alert and vigilant especially with the coming celebration of the NPA’s 40th anniversary of the reestablishment of the Communist Party of the Philippines on Dec. 26.

Bomb threats have reportedly been circulating as terrorist attacks are also anticipated on vital installations and modes of mass transportation.

Caro likewise urged the public to be extra vigilant in the midst of the prevailing security threats.
