Calderon's brother named PMA head

- James Mananghaya -

The brother of former Philippine National Police chief Oscar Calderon was named as the new superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), following the retirement of Lt. Gen. Leopoldo Maligalig last month.

Capt. Agnes Lynette Flores, PMA spokesman, said Rear Adm. Leonardo Calderon, former Armed Forces deputy chief for intelligence, would be installed into office by AFP chief Gen. Alexander Yano on Saturday in a formal ceremony at Fort del Pilar in Baguio City.

Calderon and Yano are both members of PMA Class 1976.

Prior to his appointment to the PMA, Calderon held various military posts such as chief of Navy counter-intelligence, chief of Naval Intel District 7, chief of the Navy Finance Center, senior military assistant to the Secretary of National Defense, senior military aide-de-camp to the President, and head of the Intelligence Service of Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).

Calderon holds two masteral degrees, one in Management Development Program at the Asian Institute of Management, and another in Strategic Business Economics Program at the Center for Research in Communication.
