“Enough of politicking, please.”
Seven government employees’ organizations aired this appeal to anti-government critics as they stressed that the nation will never move forward for as long as there are politicians who are in office only for themselves.
The organizations included the GSIS Naga Employees Cooperative, Department of Budget and Management Employees Association Region 3 Chapter, Association of Court of Appeals Employees, Association of Government Civil Engineers of the Philippines, Association of Government Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Employees Association, and the BIR Savings and Loan Association.
“They have miserably failed to prove anything. Some of them have even cleared the administration of their own accusations,” the groups said in a statement.
Through their national chairman Jesus Santos and president Flor Ibañez, the organizations cited the testimony of former Speaker Jose de Venecia who said that the Northrail project was aboveboard.
“But the Northrail project was among the grounds cited by De Venecia’s son Joey in the last impeachment complaint,” Santos said.
“Mr. De Venecia also said how can anyone ask for commissions from the Chinese government but in the ZTE controversy, a lot were maliciously accused of receiving or asking for bribes and commissions,” Ibañez said.
The organizations also cited accusations that anti-impeachment lawmakers received monetary rewards. “But the accusers could not present proof till now,” Ibañez said.
“If you don’t intend to do anything for the people, resign and let us have peace and progress,” she added.
The organizations belong to the Confederation of Government Employees Organizations, a nationwide federation of more than 100 associations.
