'Cagayan videoke workers STD positive'

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Health authorities tightened their watch over the possible spread of sexually transmitted diseases after four videoke bar workers here were found over the week positive of the said disease.

In a report, city health officer Dr. James Guzman said the four female guest relations officers were confirmed to be carriers of gonorrhea after a thorough laboratory test. They, reports said, were among the 20 bar workers who underwent random check-up last week. 

The STD victims, it was also learned, have been working in several night spots without permits and other clearances from the city health office.

STD diseases, such as gonorrhea and syphilis can cause human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which may lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which still has no known cure. – Charlie Lagasca
