Rains stall Compostela landslide rescue

-

DAVAO CITY – Continuous rains have hampered rescue operations for the other victims of the landslide that struck a village in Monkayo, Compostela Valley last Thursday.

At least six residents were confirmed dead while two others remained missing in the landslide in Sitio Depot, Barangay Upper Ulip.

Thirty-five families were evacuated from the village.

Also last Thursday, another landslide hit Purok 17 in Tinago district, Monkayo town, where nine people were rescued from a house buried by tons of mud.

Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, provincial police director, said emergency personnel and volunteers had to temporarily stop the rescue operations because of heavy rains. – Edith Regalado
