Iloilo cop, 2 applicants hurt in accidental blast

A police officer and two PNP applicants were injured when an M-16 rifle being test-fired by another police officer went off accidentally inside the PNP regional crime laboratory office in Iloilo the other day.

Chief Superintendent Isagani Cuevas, Western Visayas (Region 6) police director, has transferred the bullet recovery box, the area where ballistic tests are made, to prevent similar incidents.

Cuevas said PO1 Loen Cachila, a fingerprint examiner, and two PNP applicants identified as Hernafe Berrera and Sally Mar Caloyloy, both from Capiz, were injured.

The three were rushed to the PNP Regional Health Service 6 for first-aid treatment and later brought to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital.    – Cecille Suerte Felipe
