Maguindanao town exec slain

COTABATO CITY – Motorcycle-riding men shot dead the municipal engineer of South Upi, Maguindanao Wednesday night, police said.

Engineer Rey Sioson, together with his wife, was cruising the national highway in Barangay Labungan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Shariff Kabunsuan on board an owner-type jeep when he was ambushed.

Inspector Dante Mama, Datu Odin Sinsuat police chief, said Sioson’s wife was slightly wounded.

Mama said the killing could be work-related but investigators were also looking at other angles. Sioson’s relatives said he had received threats before the incident.

The ambush took place about 500 meters away from a paramilitary detachment.       – John Unson
