2 Surigao militiamen hurt in NPA attack
BUTUAN CITY – Two government militiamen were wounded when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels swooped down on their detachment in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur last Saturday afternoon, police said.
The wounded militiamen, identified as Herardo Martecion and Manuel Aru, were immediately rushed to the Marihatag District Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the guerrillas failed to cart away any firearms or ammunition.
Last Friday, suspected NPA rebels burned a logging truck of the Surigao del Sur Development Corp., owned by the Puyat family, in Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, police said. – Ben Serrano
