DTI exec hurt, 2 daughters killed in road mishap

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna – A regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) was hurt while two his daughters aged 18 and 20 were killed in a vehicular accident in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro early Wednesday morning, police said.

Chief Superintendent Luisito Palmera, Region 4-B police director, said Joel Valera, 51, DTI regional director for Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), and daughters Joelle Dominique, 20, and Joelle Cecilia, 18, were cruising the highway in Barangay Bubog, San Jose town when their Nissan Terrano rammed into a parked 10-wheeler truck.

Dominique and Cecilia, a fresh graduate and a student of the University of the Philippines, respectively, died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.

Valera sustained minor injuries. He is now recuperating at the San Jose Hospital.

Police said the Valeras had just come from Manila and were on their way home to San Jose when they met the accident.   – Arnell Ozaeta, Ed Amoroso and Non Alquitran
