Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales yesterday advised embattled Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio to “stay good” amid a recall petition filed against him.
“I told him to be good and that I’m praying for him,” Rosales told reporters.
“If a person strives to be good, it will overcome evil in the long run. It’s always like that,” he said.
Rosales said some people who want to return to their old ways may be behind the recall petition against Panlilio, a priest-on-leave.
“These are politicians talking. A person who wants to initiate reforms is always put at a disadvantage,” he said.
“These people who did that, maybe they want to go back to their old ways. But the ones who should have a say on this matter are the people of Pampanga,” he added.
Last week, the Kapanalig at Kambilan ning Memalen Pampanga (Kambilan) filed before the provincial office of the Commission on Elections the recall petition, citing loss of confidence in Panlilio’s leadership.
The recall proponents submitted several boxes containing 224,875 signatures in support of the petition.
