American mountain climber found dead

- Raffy Viray -

BALANGA CITY – Police are investigating whether there was foul play in the death of an American mountain climber whose body was found in the thickly forested upland village of San Pablo in Dinalupihan, Bataan yesterday morning.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Bataan police director, said the victim, John Wenham, 69, of Hawaii, had been missing since Sept. 14 when he went alone to scale the perilous terrain of Gordon Heights at the boundary of Dinalupihan town and Olongapo City.

Gaerlan said the body of the retired US serviceman, reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition, was identified by his wife, Norma, 65.

Police recovered Wenham’s passport, identification cards and other documents.
