New Palace adviser for Eastern Visayas named

- Marvin Sy -

President Arroyo has appointed a regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry as her presidential adviser for Eastern Visayas (Region 8).

The President announced the appointment of DTI Region 8 director Cynthia Nierras as the new presidential adviser for the region while presiding over the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council in Tacloban City last Tuesday night.

According to Nierras, she would assume the post immediately after the President signs her appointment papers.

The current PA for Region 8 is Victor Domingo who has been appointed by the President as the PA for new government centers.

The rotation of the presidential advisers was brought about by the appointment of Raymundo Roquero, the former PA for new government centers, as a board member of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Nierras said she would continue fulfilling the President’s “8 by ’08" strategy to ultimately bring the benefits of a good and well-managed economy to the people.

“8 by ’08" refers to job creation, stable cost of living, strong peso, more investments, pro-poor education, pro-poor hunger mitigation, housing and health, green Philippines and a strong anti-terrorism campaign.

The President was supposed to visit Guiuan town in Eastern Samar last Tuesday but had to cancel her appointments there because of typhoon “Pablo.”

Instead she went to Tacloban City where she convened the RDCC to address the impact of the typhoon.
