Female Britons conduct voluntary work for street kids in Ormoc

-

Ormoc City – It’s a school holiday in the United Kingdom this season but instead of vacation or pleasure to other countries, six female Britons are presently in the city conducting voluntary works with street children now dwelling at the holding center of the City Social Worker and Development office here.

The six women will return to school in September after performing their public services with the street children here.

Sophie Bearpark, 19, from London, is a medical student at the London University and would be in her second year when the school opens. Her partner Allison Oatey, 29, is a Grade 1 teacher in their home in Leicaster, England. The two said they were so enthusiastic with their voluntary work with the street children because they love children.

Megan Tinslay, 19, of Braintree, Essex, England, will take up language course when she returns home when school opens in preparation for her journalism ambition. Her partner Louise Keable, 19, from Chelmsford, Essex, England will look for a job upon her return to England as she has no plans yet of going back to school. The two women also love children that’s why they volunteered to work with the street children here, they said.

Helen Leavr, 23, from Liverpool and her partner Julie Mac Donald, 23, from Cardiff Wales, are so happy with their work here with children. The two will be going to Liverpool University to attend training to become teachers, Leavr for high school while Mac Donald for college.

The six women in an interview said that they were brought here after they applied to conduct humanitarian services form an NGO in UK known as the Visayas volunteers. They came here in tandem so that they will not be bored in their voluntary endeavor. They said there are no street children in UK because once a child is abandoned the government will look for foster parents so the child would grow the proper way.

They said that if given a chance to conduct voluntary services, they would prefer to work here in the city because they started to like the sincerity and the hospitality of the local people.

Last week they met with city Mayor Eric Codilla whom they describe as a nice talking person. – Roberto Dejon
