Police units warned vs NPA tactics

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will regularly review the combat operations, proficiency firing and defense plans of police stations against New People’s Army (NPA) attacks.

Director Silverio Alarcio, PNP director for operations, made the recommendation after NPA rebels raided police stations in Surigao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Masbate recently.

“The operational readiness of police stations must be reviewed periodically and maintained through continuous training on combat operations, proficiency firing, and dry-run of defense plans,” Alarcio said.

The series of NPA attacks prompted PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. to again remind police stations and isolated police units in the countryside to be on alert against the rebels’ deceptive and diversionary tactics.

Razon said the insurgents are taking advantage of the lack of personnel manning these police stations. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
