Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna – A 31-year-old broadcaster was killed when a rock hit him on the head while he was driving his car along the national highway in Calauan, Laguna early morning of July 1, a belated police report said yesterday.
According to the report reaching the office of Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas Jr., Laguna police director, the victim, Rolando Jota Jr., eldest son of veteran broadcaster Rolando Jota Sr. of government radio station dwDD, was cruising the national highway in Barangay Bangyas on board a Mitsubishi Lancer, together with his siblings Rommel and Joshua, when a rock shattered the car’s windshield and hit him on the head.
Jota’s siblings rushed their brother to the Laguna Provincial Hospital where he died four days later due to severe head injuries and complications.
In a cell phone interview with The STAR, Jota’s father said he believes that those who threw the rock were just standing a few meters away from the gate of the Laguna Lake Development Authority.
Police are now tracking down those behind Jota’s death.
