SURIGAO CITY – A meningo scare hit residents of this seaport city of Surigao after a public kindergarten school teacher was suspected to have died of the deadly airborne disease while in confinement last Wednesday, 14 hours after she was brought to a local private hospital here.
Surigao City Health Officer Dr. Aldini Morales identified the suspected meningo victim as Hilda Abadiezel, 51, a resident of Barangay Luna.
Morales said the victim was brought by relatives to Miranda Hospital at around 11 p.m. Wednesday evening and expired while in confinement at about 2 p.m. the following day.
He said three physicians headed by Dr. Erlinda Mongado Chua attended to the patient at Miranda Hospital.
Morales immediately ordered the Surigao City Health Office’s epidemiologist Dr. Romulo Ybiernas to identify the people whom the patient had had contact before she died. – Ben Serrano
