‘Ka Roger’ wounded in Laguna clash?
TORRIJOS, Marinduque – The military is verifying reports that Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesman Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal was wounded in an encounter with government troops in
“The people in the area gave the information that Ka Roger was wounded. But we are trying to verify that so he is now the subject of our manhunt and pursuit operations,” said Maj. Gen. Delfin Bangit, chief of the Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command.
Bangit, who was here yesterday to attend the 110th Independence Day rites, said his men captured a suspected New People’s Army rebel during the clash in Barangay Kalayaan,
“He is now undergoing tactical interrogation and we cannot yet disclose the information that he gave us,” Bangit said.
The reports apparently debunked rumors that the outspoken CPP spokesman was either dead or seriously ill.
Meanwhile, Bangit said his troops discovered a cache of high-powered firearms in Sitio Calamintao, Barangay Alacaak in Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro yesterday.
The cache included an M653 assault rifle, 10 M-16 rifles, two M-14 rifles, a Carbine rifle, an M1 Garand rifle, and a shotgun.
Bangit said an NPA rebel who was captured a few days ago tipped off his men on the firearms, which his comrades had hidden in the village.
“This shows that the NPA is going down because they are now hiding their firearms as they lack the manpower,” he said. – Jaime Laude
