Ex-presidential assistant’s admin head gunned down

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Unidentified assassins gunned down the administrator of a former presidential assistant for Mindanao and business tycoon Lepeng Wee in Barangay Pasonanca, this city, late Friday, according to police. 

The victim Alejandro Rodriguez, who was in his late 50s, also served as closed-in secretary of Wee, who served as presidential adviser for Mindanao of deposed President Joseph Estrada. 

Police investigation showed that the victim was on his way home waiting for a public utility jeepney when two unidentified gunmen, aboard a motorcycle approached him and without provocation pumped bullets into the head and body of Rodriguez. 

Rodriguez who sustained two fatal gunshot wounds was rushed to the hospital but was declared death upon arrival. 

Police investigators were probing the type of firearms used by the suspects as the bullets fired were embedded in the body of Rodriguez and did not exit. 

Zamboanga City Police director Senior Superintendent Lurimer Detran ordered a thorough investigation and dig all possible angles including possible business rivalry. 

The Wee family at the moment left the authorities to dig deeper on the liquidation of their staff while citing that the victim has no known enemy.   – Roel Pareño
