Cebu hospital team’s action ‘very disgusting,’ says church spokesman

The Catholic Church in Cebu has described the conduct of some medical practitioners from the government-run Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center as “very disgusting.”

Interviewed over the weekend at the Catholic-run dyRF, Monsignor Achilles Dakay, spokesman of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said the conduct of the involved medical practitioners was “very disgusting” as the video clip showed a “cheering and jeering” surgical team while in the process of removing a perfume canister from a homosexual male patient’s rectum.

The Cebu Catholic Church like­wise described the medical prac­titioners’ conduct during the clinical procedure as “very unprofessional, unethical and scandalous.”

Dakay, on the other hand, cautioned the public saying that they should learn from the incident and that immorality has its ill effects and consequences.

The video was shown on the popular website “youtube.com”.

Doctors were seen in the operation laughing boisterously during the procedure.

The VSMMC is said to be making an apology to the 39-year-old patient identified only as Jan-Jan because of the embarrassment he suffered.

At least six doctors are being investigated. They could not say how many nurses were placed under investigation.

A five-member body was tasked to look into the controversy and is expected to release its findings soon.

The investigation began even before the scandal came out in the media because the hospital leadership is concerned about the incident.

Presidential Management Staff director general Cerge Remonde, in an interview over DZRB, said that he was “scandalized” by the inident as a Cebuano and because a government hospital was involved. – With Marvin Sy
