Suspended Rizal mayor told to leave town hall

Acting Rodriguez, Rizal Mayor Jonas Cruz gave suspended Mayor Pedro Cuerpo 24 hours to vacate his office.

Cruz issued Memorandum Order 44-08 ordering Cuerpo to leave, saying his continued stay has caused “unauthorized and unjustified water and communication expenses” and hampered the delivery of basic services.

“Your unauthorized stay continuously creates confusion and tension to the employees and the public,” added Cruz in his memo to Cuerpo.

Cuerpo, however, refused to receive the memorandum, saying he would not leave the mayor’s office.

He insisted that what he is doing is a symbolic protest against the “unjust” six-month suspension which the provincial board had meted against him.      – Non Alquitran
