-

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Because of the increasing number of crimes in Calabarzon, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4 A launched Sunday a series of police operations against criminal  groups, including most wanted persons with outstanding arrest warrants. This resulted to the arrest of several persons with a number of confiscated loose firearms.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Laxa, CIDG director, identified one of the arrested persons as Jose Mari San Gabriel,  owner of a Petron gasoline station who was charged with illegal possession of firearms.

Laxa told The STAR, the suspect was nabbed by his men led by Superintendent Romano Cardino, Intelligence and Operation chief, in Calauan, Laguna on March 10 and seized from the suspect several guns including drugs.

He said a robbery gang leader, Adonis Amarante, 39, tagged as the leader of the Amarante gang who was responsible for a series of robberies in Calabarzon region, was killed in a shootout in Barangay Bayan, Luma 11, Imus, Cavite, last week.

The CIDG lawmen recovered from the suspect two .45 caliber pistols, one hand-held radio and assorted identification cards of the suspects.

Laxa said the CIDG investigators have filed criminal charges against the arrested persons while the confiscated guns were checked for proper disposition.    – Ed Amoroso
