CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A 69-year-old man died after a jet ski he was maneuvering accidentally collided with a motorboat (banka) along the Subic Bay waters in Barangay Barreto, Olongapo City, Sunday.
In his report here, Senior Superintendent Abelardo Villacorta, Olongapo City police director, identified the victim as Mario Sarmiento, a resident of SSS Village, Marikina City.
Villacorta said the accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. in front of the Arizona Beach resort in Barangay Barreto.
He said the victim went out of control and his jet ski accidentally collided with a banka being driven by a certain Leopoldo Calapno, 60, of Barreto, Olongapo City.
Due to the strong impact of the collision, Sarmiento suffered severe injuries in different parts of his body and he was immediately taken to the James Gordon Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors.
The victim was one of the vacationers in Olongapo City when he met the tragic incident, said Villacorta. – Ric Sapnu
