DAVAO CITY – Authorities here shall fully implement starting today the Davao (Bangoy) International Airport Safety Ordinance of 2007 in an effort to ensure the safety and security at the Davao International Airport, also known as Bangoy International Airport.
The ordinance includes in its list of safety measures and prohibited acts that no kite, balloon or remote control plane shall be allowed to be flown or caused to be flown within the distance of eight-km. radius from the center of the airport or 12 kms. of the final approach of Runway 23 in Barangay Sasa and Runway in Barangays Angliongto and Buhangin.
According to Southern Mindanao regional police commander Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, the ordinance was a joint effort with the Davao City Sangguniang Panglungsod as well as with the Air Transportation Office.
“Aside from the passengers, airport workers and airline crew, the protection of the residents living around the airport should also be our concern,” Caro said.
Caro said the ordinance also prohibits persons from raising doves or pigeons within the distance of five-km. radius from the fence of the airport unless placed inside safe and secured cages.
In addition to the mandatory inspection conducted by designated law enforcement agencies, no person, animal or vehicle of any kind shall be allowed to loiter within the area.
