16 mountaineers rescued in Quezon

-

CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City – Sixteen members of a mountaineering club were rescued by the Philippine Air Force when they lost track while exploring Mt. San Cristobal in Dolores, Quezon Saturday night, an Army spokesman said.

Maj. Randolf Cabangbang, spokesman of the Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command, said the mountaineers were employees of Pencil Inc., an advertising firm.

Cabangbang told The STAR that the PAF’s 743rd Combat Group led by a certain Lt. Bautista were able to locate and rescue the mountain trekkers at around 10 a.m. yesterday.

Helicopters from the PAF’s 505th Search and Rescue Group airlifted the group to the Dolores town proper.

Two of the mountaineers, Eric Sanchez and Sony Angeles, were brought to the Camp Nakar Station Hospital due to foot fractures. – Arnell Ozaeta, James Mananghaya and Rudy Santos
