Poultry trader shot dead in Batangas

CAMP VICENTE LIM, La­guna – A poultry owner was shot dead by unidentified armed men  at his store in Barangay Sta Rita Karsada, Batangas City, Sunday morning, report said.

Senior Superintendent Mark Edison Belarma, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief, identified the slain businessman as Joseph Maligaya, 39. He died of multiple gunshot wounds on his head and body.

Police investigators said the shooting incident happened at around 9:30 a.m., while the victim was busy working at his store when the gunmen on board a motorcycle with no license plate arrived at the victim’s place.

Investigators said the victim was shot at close range by one of the suspects with a .45 caliber  and immediately escaped towards Batangas City.

The case is still under investigation by combined investigators of Batangas City police and the CIDG group.

According to police, Maliga­ya is the latest trader who was killed in Batangas this year. Police said several businessmen were killed in Batangas, but, until now, not one of the murder cases is solved by police authorities in Batangas.   – Ed Amoroso
