Cops set charges vs rebels

Koronadal City – Police authorities in South Cotabato are preparing criminal charges against a band of communist rebels that attacked the an Australian-backed mining company in Tampakan town last New Year’s Day.

South Cotabato police director Senior Supt. Robert Kiunisala told The STAR that they will file the appropriate charges against the members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who attacked the Saguittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) at Barangay Tablu in Tampakan.

In its website, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) claimed that its armed-wing, the NPA, was responsible for the attack that resulted to the burning of the company’s administration building and six other smaller structures after the rebels fired grenade launchers at the camp.     – Ramil Bajo
