DAGUPAN CITY – This city will soon have a new police station worth P12.5 million at A.B. Fernandez West whose construction will start late January.
Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, city police chief, said the P3 million fund from House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. is now available but it has to be returned because there was a change in the site for the new building.
He said, originally, the building was to be constructed at the old police station at the Perez Market Site by demolishing the existing building to pave the way for the construction of a new three-story structure.
A staff of the speaker informed Borromeo that the check with documents specifying where it will be spent containing the amount pledged by De Venecia has to be changed bearing the correct location.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and the city council members led by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez gave the police a better location, Borromeo said.
He said the new site which is more than 1,000 square meters will be the place formerly occupied by the Philippine National Red Cross.
The rest of the balance will come from the Philippine National Police.
He said the construction will take about eight months.
Once completed, Borromeo said, this will be a big boost to the police force composed of 149-strong members serving 31 barangays here. – Eva Visperas
