Comelec proclaims Bataan town mayor anew

BALANGA CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) finally declared Rolando Tigas the duly elected mayor of Samal, Bataan yesterday, seven months after its Special First Division nullified his proclamation by the municipal board of canvassers.

Tigas, a re-electionist mayor, had filed a motion for reconsideration, saying that the Comelec gravely erred in nullifying his proclamation.

Acting on Tigas’ petition, the poll body convened a new municipal board of canvassers (MBOC) to canvass questioned returns from 41 precincts.

The newly created MBOC found no tampered ballots and no violations of technical and procedural rules in the canvassing of the questioned returns.
